Khao Dinsor, Chumporn south of Thailand

Khao Dinsor is the highest mountain top is Patew District. From the city center, drive along Highway No. 3180 and turn right into Ban Ton Ma Phrao area. Distance totals 20 kilometers. The mountain is recommended for those who are fond of trekking. The route to the mountain top takes around two hours through forests and southern indigenous flora. The top, which stands 400 meter above sea level, is a vas and empty grass-covered plain from where scenic views can be seen. On the east, there are the sea and Toong Wua Laen Beach. On the west, there is a railroad towards Prachuap Khiri Khan, orchards, rubber plantation and beautiful, complex mountain ridge spreading itself all the way to Burma. A trip to the top of Khao Dinsor should be accompanied by a guide. In Thailand, hawks are quite rare especially those living together as a flock. However, from September to November each year, flocks of hawks and various birds will migrate southward from Russia, China, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong for over 2,000-4,000 kilometers. The migration provides them with warm weather and abundant food supplies.
From September to November each year, but Peak time in October, The best time for watching migrating flocks of hawks is in early morning from 8.00-11.00, while the sunlight is not strong. This is when the hawks fly low and are easy to be noticed. Most frequently seen species are Chinese Sparrowhawk, Oriental Honey-Buzzard Japanese Sparrowhawk, Grey-faced Buzzard and Shikra. In addition to wonderful hawk flocks, bird watchers will get a chance to see flocks of eagles which are also rare to find in Thailand.
